AmeriCorps VISTA is a national service program that gives you the opportunity to make a difference in your life and help strengthen schools and the students, families, and communities they serve by participating in service and volunteer activities. AmeriCorps VISTA Members receive a monthly stipend and have the opportunity to earn an education award in exchange for one year of service.

Safe Passages is a non-profit organization committed to disrupting the cycle of poverty by engaging youth and families to build and drive a continuum of services that supports student success and community development. Safe Passages serves over 4,200 children and families annually through our strategies that span the age continuum of birth through young adulthood, including Early Childhood, School Linked Services, Juvenile Justice and Career Pathways.
Safe Passages aims to integrate education and social services at school sites in order to make school communities catalysts for social change within the larger neighborhood context. To this end, the Extended Day School Based VISTA works as part of an integrated team at a school site to support the development of services and partnerships necessary to meet low income families basic needs, and socio-economic mobility. The VISTA will help secure community partnerships, volunteers and resources to increase family engagement in their children’s education.
Member Duties
AmeriCorps VISTA members will assist in the development of family resource services at an elementary school in Oakland, CA. Specific responsibilities relating to extended day programs include: 1) Development of new partners for these programs, from community volunteers to corporate sponsorships; 2) Development of data tracking infrastructure such as contact information for families and streamlined systems for communications; 3) Support extended day family engagement events.
Candidates MUST be available and commit to service between June 7, 2021 and June 6, 2022.
